A TEAM of crack RAF pilots has helped ScottishPower win approval from the Ministry of Defence for plans to build one of the UK’s largest windfarms. The MoD attempted to block the £200m development at Harestanes in the Forest of Ae, Dumfriesshire - which could power as many as 180,000 homes - amid fears that the scheme could interrupt low-flying training drills. But jet and helicopter pilots from RAF Leuchars and RAF Lossiemouth called for the complaint to be dropped after taking a virtual flight through the proposed scheme on a computer-generated simulator commissioned by the company. ET HOLD af toppiloter fra Royal Air Force har assisteret ScottishPower med at få det engelske forsvarsministeriums godkendelse af planerne for opførelsen af en af UK's største vindmølleparker. Forsvarsministeriet ville blokere for det £200 mio. store byggeprojekt - som vil skaffe strøm svarende til 180.000 hustandes strømforbrug - ud fra en frygt for at planerne ville forstyrre jagerpiloters lavtflyvning øvelser. Men jager- og helikopterpiloter fra RAF Leuchars og RAF Lossiemouth sørgede for at modstanden blev droppet efter en virtuel flyvetur gennem det foreslåede byggeri i en computerskabt model, stillet til råddighed af firmaet.
